Frequently Asked Questions

Arranging and attending healthcare appointments can be daunting.  Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions which we hope can make things easier.  If you have any questions or concerns about arranging an appointment, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

What to expect in my first physiotherapy appointment

Your physio will come to you at your chosen venue - usually your home unless otherwise arranged - we will bring everything we need for your appointment with us.  If you haven't completed your new patient form online ahead of your appointment (this will be explained when you book), then any paperwork needing completed by yourself will be carried out at the start of the session.

Next is the most important part of the session, this is where we talk through your issue; when/how it happened, how it behaves during different aspects of your life.  Your physio will likely ask a lot of questions here - this is to give us as clear an idea of what is causing your issue as possible and how best to go about treating, it as well as get an idea of what "normal" is for you.

The physical examination will then follow this, what we look at during this will be informed by our discussion about your pain/injury.  You will likely be asked to perform some different movements both on your own as well as with the physiotherapist.  This helps create a clearer picture for us.

After the verbal and physical examination, we will discuss potential causes of your pain and together work out the best way to proceed.  Sometimes this may mean a referral to another health professional for their opinion, but mostly it will involve creating a tailored rehab plan for you and your issue.  You will be invited to ask any questions during and following this.

We will then discuss the next stages, be it a follow-up appointment or some self management and what to do in between now and then.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have at any stage during your appointment.

Are you a PVG member?

Yes, Jenny is a full member of the PVG scheme

Do you have a premises?

No, Jenny Drysdale Physiotherapy is a completely mobile clinic, meaning we will travel to see you in your home or another pre-agreed location.

How Long are appointments?

Appointments vary in duration depending on your issue and what treatment is required.  We generally allow roughly 40 minutes for a session, first appointments often take longer than this, and follow-up appointments may not need as long.  There is no additional charge for a first appointment with Jenny Drysdale Physiotherapy.

What does an appointment cost?

As a mobile service the price of your appointment depends on your location.  Full details of pricing zones can be found here:

What area do you cover?

The full zone map can be found by clicking below.  We may be able to provide an appointment outwith this area, but this would depend on availability and there would be an additional travel charge.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing.  If we are assessing a specific joint it is useful to see that joint and so clothing which allows this is helpful - e.g. shorts rather than leggings for a knee problem, and strappy tops for shoulder issues.  The beauty of a home appointment is that you will be able to change if needed during your appointment.

What if I have more than one issue?

This isn't a problem, and we recommend at your first appointment that you let us know if you have more than one problem.  Appointment times are, however, scheduled to ensure that we have time to thoroughly assess and create a treatment plan for one issue and so multiple issues in one session will not allow as thorough an assessment of each.  We therefore will usually focus on the issue that is causing you most difficulty in the first instance and can then create plans for your other issues at a later stage.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

This isn't an issue at all, life happens!  We ask that you give us as much notice as possible and please note that we do have a cancellation fee of £20 for appointments cancelled within 24hrs of the slot.

Do I need to clear a space for the appointment?

The biggest piece of kit your physio may bring is a portable physio table.  As long as there is enough space for this to go up then we don't need any more, it is very rare to need to move things around - we have been known to work in a store cupboard!

Can I book online?

We're afraid not.  Because we are mobile, we need to be able to plan travel time into the day and there is currently not an online booking platform that supports that so please get in touch to arrange an appointment.

Do I need to remove pets from the room for treatment?

Jenny would like to say hello to your pets... they are welcome to be in the room if they will be happy and settled.
